James Thomas "Tom" Peavy
1942-2007

James Thomas "Tom" Peavy, 65 of Gulf Breeze, passed away April 4, 2007.

Tom was born in Tallahassee in 1942, to James and Blanche Peavy. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1962 and served 4 years. He married Barbara Didday in 1963. Together they raised three wonderful daughters, Janet, Cheryl and Samantha. They moved to Gulf Breeze in 1965 and Tom began working for the Gulf Breeze Post Office in 1967. He retired in 2004 after serving 37 years in Civil Service. He worked at the Transfer Station in Gulf Breeze for the past three years. His spare time was devoted to his wife and family. He loved to spend time at their farm in Georgia hunting and fishing.

Tom lived for his wife and girls. His family was everything to him. It would take you about five minutes with Tommy to figure out he married his soul mate and loved Barbara in the manner most women dream of. He would light up when his girls or grandkids were around. He loved life and enjoyed every small detail of it.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Peavy, Sr. and Blanche Elizabeth Peavy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughters, Janet Carol Smith, Cheryl Lynn (Patrick Holmes) Shirey, and Samantha Leigh Peavy, all of Gulf Breeze; his sister, Carol Lynn (John Paul) Green of Macon, GA; and five grandchildren, Stephen James Smith, Christopher Lee Shirey, Nicholas Lee Wells, Jansen Thomas Wells and Max Holmes Shirey.

Pallbearers were Patrick Shirey, Stephen Smith, Christopher Shirey, Eddie Joseph, John Green, Max Finney and Duane Leifur. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Wells, Jansen Wells and Max Shirey.

Visitation was held Friday, April 6 at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, and Rose Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
