Beach clean up is Saturday It's time to "Team Up to Clean Up" Pensacola Beach. Volunteers can join Escambia County Commissioner Grover Robinson, IV, SRIA Chairman Vernon Prather, residents, businesses and organizations in removing trash from Pensacola Beach roadways, rain or shine - from 8:30 a.m. to1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. Clean up kick-off is at the Casino Beach Pavilion. Participating sponsors will provide trash bags, sunscreen and refreshments. Volunteers should wear gloves, a hat and comfortable clothing. To volunteer or learn more about the event, contact event organizer Kim Duell at 932-2257. Residents should have yard debris, construction and demolition debris up to 25 pounds and small appliances up to 25 pounds taken to the curb before Saturday. That day, county crews and volunteers will collect and remove the debris. "Anybody who's elderly or disabled can call 932-2257 and a volunteer will come out to provide clean up assistance. The resident has to be on the site; they can't call for assistance and then go off somewhere," said Sandy Johnston, executive director of the Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce. A mini-hazardous waste roundup will be available at Casino Beach parking lot on Saturday, April 14. Commercial amounts of hazardous waste will not be accommodated. Refreshments will be provided after the cleanup for all volunteers. For details, see www.visitpensacolabeach.com.
