HEALTH BRIEFS Council on Aging of West Florida is seeking out-going, people-oriented volunteers to assist with promotional efforts. The volunteers will become part of a new marketing team that will represent the council and its services at community events. The selected Marketing Representatives will be provided training and a Council on Aging of West Florida monogrammed polo shirt. Though prior related experience is preferred, essential characteristics include confidence, an interest in seniors, physical stamina and the ability to enthusiastically share information with the public. An informational session for those interested in being a part of the team will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Council on Aging of West Florida, located at 875 Royce Street in Pensacola. Baptist Hospital offers cardio class Baptist Hospital Cardiovascular Services is offering Heart Healthy classes for heart disease patients, families and people at risk. Classes are designed to help individuals understand lifestyle factors that increase the risk of heart disease, help reverse the disease and coping mechanisms. April 18- Sodium and label reading April 25- Irregular heartbeats and cardiac medications Classes are located in Baptist Health Care Tower 1, Ste. 103, 1717 N. "E" St. All classes are offered at three different times during the scheduled day: 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per class, or a series of eight different classes is $25. Sacred Heart offers Freedom From Smoking program Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola will offer its "Freedom From Smoking" program starting May 1 and May 2 to help with the physical, psychological, and habitual components of nicotine addiction. Participants can choose to attend the seven-week course at sessions in the afternoon or evening. The classes will be held: Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. starting May 1 Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting May 2 All classes will be held at Sacred Heart Hospital and will cost $75 per person. However, the orientation class is free and a limited number of scholarships also are available for the entire program. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Urology Seminar Sacred Heart Hospital's Senior Service's program will present a free seminar on Urologic Health Issues in Pensacola, Wednesday, April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Greenhut Auditorium on Sacred Heart's Ninth Avenue campus. Presented by Dr. David Bernstein, a board-certified urologist with Pensacola Urology, the seminar will help attendees understand the signs and symptoms of a variety of urology-health related issues, including erectile dysfunction, prostate cancer, and incontinence.
