GBHS athletics among state's best Gulf Breeze High School, after completion of the recent winter sports season, is in ninth place among 4A schools in the state for the annual Dodge Sunshine Cup. GBHS is ninth with 165 points. Washington is sixth with 225 points. The 650 member senior high schools have been divided into six classifications based on the enrollments submitted to the FHSAAOffice in October 2004. In accordance with a Board mandate at its November 2002 meeting, Classes 1A, 2A and 3A are further subdivided into public and private categories. An all-sports award will be presented in each of these nine categories in overall, girls and boys divisions at the conclusion of the 2006-07 school year. Points are awarded a school based on its finish in FHSAA State Series competition in each sport in the classification in which it has been assigned to compete. The top 32 places are scored. Points are awarded as follows: 50, 47, 44, 42, 40, 38, 36, 34, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. When two or more schools are tied for a particular place in a sport, the points allotted for those places are shared equally by the schools that are tied. Gulf Breeze has been led by its girls soccer team, which finished as the state's runner up. Orlando's Bishop Moore, who beat GBHS 2-1, are fourth in the standings with 238.5 points. GBHS also scored points with the boys soccer team's regional runner up finish, the volleyball team's playoff appearance, the girls golf team's trip to the state meet and the boys golf team's trip to regionals.. Niceville is ninth in Class 5A (215.7 points), while Catholic is ninth among 3A private schools (203.5 points). Central is sixth among 1A public schools (8.5 points). 4A standings
