DCT accepting applications for next school year

The Diversified Career Training program has 26 hard working students this year. They work in a variety of businesses while attending classes during the mornings at GBHS. Each student works a minimum of 15 hours per week.

They receive credit from the school for completing these hours as they are supervised by their coordinator, Mrs. Diane Folse. Mr. Dave Wilson, NAS Pensacola instructor, and Ms. Sara Robertson, Junior Achievement Representative, escorted the group recently to NAS for a tour to complete the leadership training session provided by Junior Achievement.

Applications are now being accepted for 2007-08 school year. Any student that would like to apply, can pick up an application in the guidance office or from Mrs. Folse in Room 821.

Oriole Beach Elementary School Spring Carnival April 14

The Oriole Beach Elementary Spring Carnival is April 14 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Carnival will feature lots of fun booths and inflatable obstacle courses hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza soft drinks cotton candy, with appearances by Scoop (Pensacola Pelicans mascot) and Ice Man (Pensacola Ice Pilots mascot)

The University of West Florida Department of Music, in partnership with the Pensacola Opera, will offer a summer music camp for high school students, ages 14 to 18, July 22 through 27 on the UWF Main Campus.

The base registration fee is $200 per person, with additional fees for housing, meal plans and private lessons. The application deadline is June 29.

Merit-based scholarships for $50 and $100 are available. For scholarship consideration, applications must be received no later than June 1. Students will present a concert at 7 p.m. July 27 that is free and open to the public.

Woodlawn Beach to sponsor 5K run/walk

Woodlawn Beach Middle School is sponsoring their inaugural 5K Run/Walk on April 21.

Sponsorships are also available from the 'Blue Paw' category to 'Platinum Paw.'

WBMS Our School Advisory Council (SAC) is looking for parents/ guardians interested in forming a "Hospitality Committee".

Better Business Bureau to offer scholarships to local students

The Better Business Bureau Foundation of Northwest Florida is currently accepting applications from students in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton county high schools for its 2007 BBB Student Ethics Scholarship Program.

The program will offer six $1,000 scholarships to current high school juniors or seniors who plan to attend an accredited college in the United States or Canada.

Local leaders from business and academia will serve as judges and award the scholarships based on criteria including leadership, community service, academic achievement and an essay response on building character.

Award recipients will be notified in September and awards will be presented in conjunction with the BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics luncheons this October.

To apply for the scholarship students should contact their principal or guidance counselor, or download an application at www.nwfl.bbb.org. Entries must be postmarked by April 25.

GBHS Project Grad fundraising underway

Gulf Breeze High School PTSO is kicking off its fundraising for Project Graduation 2007.

What is Project Graduation? It is a substance-free event for our graduating seniors the night of graduation. Its goal is to prevent deaths and injuries associated with drinking, drug use and driving after the graduation ceremony.

Graduates are treated to a night of entertainment, games, refreshments and door prizes. The exact location and specific details are not made public for safety reasons. Transportation is provided to and from the event departing from the high school parking lot following the commencement ceremony.
