Kidnapping report a hoax

The mother of the toddler who was supposedly kidnapped March 13 is now in trouble with the law for filing a false report.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of the child's mother, Jessica Brand, 22. Investigators proved that Brand gave false information to law enforcement officers concerning the alleged abduction of her 2-year-old daughter. Brand admitted to Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office investigators that she did not see anyone carrying her daughter away from her residence as she reported. Brand said that she saw a white male approximately 50 feet from her residence, but he did not touch her daughter.

Brand said she falsified the portion of her story so deputies would take her complaint seriously.

The charge is a first degree misdemeanor.
