Dolphin baseball stays unbeaten in district, but win streak snapped
Dolphins 14, Jay 1 (five innings) Michael Thomas threw three innings of no-hit ball, striking out three and throwing only 40 pitches to lead the Dolphins over Jay March 6 in Jay. Gulf Breeze scored two in the first inning, on a sacrifice fly by Boomer Harrington, scoring Brandon Scott and a wild pitch, which scored Kameron Brunty. Brunty was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Harrington went 3-for-4 with a run, a double, and three RBIs. The three hits equaled Harrington's total of the entire season to that point. Brunty's single in the second inning scored Tyler Schumacher to make it 3-0. Schumacher went 2- for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Harrington's double, Ashton Vance's single and Tyler Gross' groundout plated three more runs in the third inning. Brandon Scott, Derek Jeter and Harrington all scored in the inning. Scott went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored three times for the Dolphins. Gulf Breeze put the game away with an eight run fourth inning - five of those coming with two outs. Harrington hit a two-run single in the inning, as did T.J. Jordan. Gross added an RBI single, as did Brunty and Scott. Schumacher drove in two runs with a double. Jordan and Gross both had two RBIs in the win, while Jeter scored twice. Dane Monnin struck out one, walked two and gave up four hits in the final two innings. Brad McGuire played in his first game of the season, drawing a walk in the fourth inning. McGuire had his non-throwing shoulder scoped a couple of months ago. Dolphins 12, Milton 4 Brunty continued to swing a hot bat Friday in Milton, collecting three more hits to lead Gulf Breeze past Milton, moving the Dolphins to 4-0 in District 1-4A play. Harrington, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, drove in two of those runs with a double in the third. Scott, who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, doubled in a six-run fourth inning that scored both Kolton Hanke and McGuire. Harrington then doubled to score Scott, while Jordan's single plated Harrington. Gross added an RBI single. Jordan went 2- for-4 for the Dolphins. Jordan had another RBI in the fifth inning, flying out to score Scott, who doubled. Brunty added an RBI single in the sixth, while Jordan singled and scored in the seventh. Greg Tober struck out seven in four innings, allowing only two hits, but walked six and hit two batters. Mark Waghalter pitched the final three innings, striking out six, walking two and giving up four hits and two runs. Alabama Christian 8-6, Dolphins 4-3 Three hit batters, a walk and a fielding error allowed Alabama Christian to put up six runs in the second inning of their game one win over the Dolphins Saturday. Gulf Breeze bounced back with a win in game two, with Scott's three-run double accounting for the key hit. The Dolphins scored two runs in the third and sixth innings of game one. Brunty, who went 2-for-4, doubled to bring in McGuire, who walked before Harrington's groundout plated Scott, who singled. Harrington added a solo home run in the sixth inning before Jordan reached on an error and scored on a single by Hanke. Scott went 2-for-4 in the loss, as Michael Thomas pitched only 1 2/3 innings before complaining of pain in his pitching arm. Cody Warford pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out five, but hit three batters before Jordan pitched the final three innings. Brunty racked up three more hits in the second game, one of them a double. Jordan added a two-run single. Justin Hurd pitched 3 1/3 innings in game two, while Monnin pitched the final 3 2/3 innings. Dolphin JV 7, Milton 6 Bo Dobson's single with one out in the bottom of the seventh scored Patrick Vance to give 5-1 Gulf Breeze a win over Milton Friday. Dobson went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice, while Kyle Schnackenberg went 2-for-3 and scored once. Luke Crooke picked up the win in relief of Alex Ball, who struck out six and allowing only four hits in six innings. Dolphin ninth grade 1, Milton 0 Tyler Boylan's double in the bottom of the first scored Tyler McGee as Gulf Breeze won Friday, improving to 6-1. Thomas Dorsey struck out six and walked four for the complete game win. He allowed only three hits. |
