OLVANY William J. Olvany passed away peacefully at the age of 86, in Pensacola, Florida, on Monday, March 5. Mr. Olvany was a five-year resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida (previously of the Florida Keys) and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey, on February 3, 1921, to the late William J. and Charlotte Link Olvany. Mr. Olvany graduated from the University of Notre Dame and then served as a Lieutenant (JG) in the Navy. He fought in WWII in the Pacific Theatre of operations where he received many medals and commendations for his service. He had a career as a mechanical engineer. He was a lover of history, fishing, boating, orchids and genealogy. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Olvany, who recently passed away February 21. He is survived by his daughter, Dolores Olvany of Tavernier, FL, as well as six sons, William Olvany and wife, Karen, of Huntington Station, NY, Dennis Olvany and wife, Ann, of Carriere, MS, Jimmy Olvany and wife, Suzanne, of Gulf Breeze, FL, Michael Olvany of Huntington Station, NY and Peter Olvany and wife, Paula, of Logan, UT, and Paul Olvany of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Dennis and Matthew Olvany, Nicole Delucia and Peter and Max Olvany; and great-grandchildren, Kevin and Elise. He is also survived by a brother, George Olvany of Stuart, FL. A mass of the Resurrection was conducted at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze on Friday, March 9. with a visitation one hour prior to service. The Rev. Luke Hunt acted as celebrant. Interment followed at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
