GBHS dominates at math competition On February 21, Gulf Breeze High School took 75 students to the American Mathematics Competition hosted by the University of West Florida. Students from high schools in both Santa Rosa County and Escambia County attended. The students took a 25 question test involving Algebra and Geometry skills. The problems were very thought-provoking multi-step questions. There were two test groups: the AMC 10, for freshmen and sophomores, and the AMC 12, for juniors and seniors. The top 10 scores in each group were recognized. Places four through 10 received tshirts and the top three winners received framed certificates and Flash drives. In the AMC 10 division Gulf Breeze took seven of the 10 top scores, and in the AMC 12 they took four of the 10. The AMC 10 winners were: ninth place Vincent Costers, eighth Kelsey Moran, seventh Celia Eddy, sixth Stephen O'Brien, fourth Billy McCormick, third Jake Stanley, and first Andrew Cooke. The AMC 12 winners were: Tenth place Lauren Musick, eighth Meaghan Schaeffner, seventh Joey Segar, and first Logan Rejda. The GBHS Math Dept. is very proud of these winners and all of the students that chose to participate in this competition. |
