Slime
Nickelodeon stops today on Pensacola Beach as part of 'Slime Across America' tour
BY FRANKLIN HAYES Gulf Breeze News franklin@gulfbreezenews.com

SLIME ACROSS AMERICA TOUR Today, March 8 4 p.m. Pensacola Beach details: 916-2257
Throngs of children hoping to be covered in sticky, goopy, neon-green slime will pack the Casino Beach parking lot at Pensacola Beach today, looking for a glimpse of their favorite Nickelodeon stars. En route to Nickelodeon's 20th Annual Kid's Choice Awards in Los Angeles an interactive 18-Wheel Slime Mobile, piloted by Nickelodeon's own Pick Boy from U-Pick Live, will be at Pensacola Beach between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

The "Slime Across America Tour" will stop in the Pensacola area after drenching one lucky kid in Montgomery, Ala. with slime and will head to Biloxi, Miss. after leaving the beach. The first leg of the tour before the awards show includes 20 stops across the southern half of the United States. Once the Kid's Choice Awards have come and gone March 31, the tour will continue to other markets across the country for the rest of the year.

Nickelodeon's Slime Across America experience and the 18-wheel Slime Mobile will feature various games and attractions including a Nick Live! Slime Edition interactive stage show, a user generated content station where kids can create content to submit to Nickelodeon for possible air on me:tv, the network's new interactive show, an audition area, music-themed activities such as Nickelodeon karaoke, Nickelodeon costume character appearances, product giveaways, and of course, the opportunity for kids to get slimed.

"Nickelodeon has a long and storied history with slime," said Pam Kaufman, Executive Vice President of Nickelodeon Marketing and Worldwide Partnerships. "From 'You Can't Do That on Television' to the first celebrity sliming

at the 1988 Kids' Choice Awards, neon-green slime and Nickelodeon have been synonymous. So what better way to reconnect America with the green goo and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Kids' Choice Awards than by painting the country with slime all year long?"

Santa Rosa Island Authority official Buck Lee expects quite a large crowd to gather in the parking lot near the Gulfside Pavilion not long after school lets out for the afternoon.

"They will pick one lucky kid out of the audience to get slimed," Lee said.

"Anytime that you can mention Pensacola Beach on national TV, it's always a plus," he added.

Lee also said he hopes that when families watch Nickelodeon, parents will be impressed with the sugar-white sands and want to vacation there.

Lee added that he doesn't expect the free flowing slime to wreck the beach's natural environment.

"Whatever slime is poured goes into a plastic pool," Lee said. "The slime is non-toxic and I hope it's biodegradable."
