Lecture series at First Presbyterian Church explores the role of church in a disturbing world The public is invited to attend the annual Harbison Lecture Series at the First Presbyterian Church downtown Pensacola. Each year the church brings in a nationally-renowned lecturer on a topic of significant relevance to today's religious community. The lecture series, an exciting event in the life of the church and our community, will be held on Sunday and Monday, March 11 and 12. Dr. Randon Jackson, Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, announced that this year's speaker, Martin E. Marty, is one of America's most prominent interpreters of religion and culture today. Author of more than 50 books, Dr. Marty is also a speaker, columnist, Lutheran pastor, and teacher. He was a professor of religious history for 35 years at the University of Chicago Divinity School, where he is now the Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus. The lectures will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and Monday evenings. Sunday evening's lecture is "Being the Local Church in the Era of Global Christianity," and Monday's lecture is "Realistic Hope and Hopeful Realism: The Church in a Disturbing World." Dr. Marty will also preach at the Sunday morning services ( 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.). First Presbyterian Church is located at 33 E. Gregory Street. Lectures are free and the public is welcome.
