Weekly Best Bets

Thursday

7 p.m. on ABC

Ugly Betty: This is an episode to make even the most fashion-unconscious of fans wince, as Betty (America Ferrera) wears the world's most hideous prom dress to review the restaurant at a posh hotel. Those who want Betty to dump whiny Walter (Kevin Sussman) may also cringe a bit, as he shows up to "help" with her review. Back at Mode, Sofia's (Salma Hayek) presence is driving Daniel (Eric Mabius) to distraction in "After Hours."

8 p.m. on ABC

Grey's Anatomy: Mommy and daddy issues abound in "Staring at the Sun." Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) treats an injured girl who wants her nanny instead of Mom, which sends her off on a tirade about how career women shouldn't have kids. She's flashing back to her own life with a career-focused mom, but Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is the one who's around to be offended.

Friday

8 p.m. on NBC

Las Vegas: It's early for a network show to have a season finale, but the definition of "season" has gotten rather fluid lately. In any event, this one's a don't-miss. Sam (Vanessa Marcil) is kidnapped, Delinda and Danny (Molly Sims, Josh Duhamel) get some big news, and Danny goes to extremes to keep a friend out of Iraq. James Lesure and James Caan also star in the new episode "Heroes."

Saturday

7 p.m. on ABC

The Sixth Sense: OK. So you know the ending. There's no way to avoid it unless you've been living in a cave for the past several years. Bruce Willis is one of the world's underrated actors, and he does another splendid job here as a child psychologist who is trying to help a boy (Haley Joel Osment) with a unique ability. Toni Collette and Donnie Wahlberg also star in this 1999 chiller, which made M. Night Shyamalan a household name.

7 p.m. on NBC

The Italian Job: Honor among thieves goes only so far in director F. Gary Gray's ("The Negotiator")

energetic 2003 update of a 1969

heist tale. Mark Wahlberg plays the mastermind

behind a Venice gold robbery that goes

like clockwork - until one team member (Edward

Norton) turns traitor. The others are determined to even the score in Los Angeles, where

several small, very speedy cars are pivotal to

the plan.

Sunday

5 p.m. on USA Training Day: An Oscar-winning performance by Denzel Washington helps this effectively gritty 2001 police drama stand out from the pack. He breaks type as a veteran of the Los Angeles narcotics beat who deals dirty in getting the goods on really bad guys. Ethan Hawke plays his new partner, a rookie who can't believe much of what he witnesses as they make their rounds. Scott Glenn and Tom Berenger co-star.

Monday

7 p.m. on CBS

The New Adventures of Old Christine: "Stellaaaa!" Remember the "Seinfeld" where Julia Louis-Dreyfus' character, Elaine, gets whacked out on painkillers and makes a fool of herself in front of Jerry's family? Julia's at it again in her new role, as Christine tries a new brand of sleeping pills that make her loopy and cause her to make some phone calls she's bound to regret. If you liked her exsweetie, Burton (Matt Letscher), good news: He's back in the new episode "Sleepless in Mar Vista."

9 p.m. on NBC

The Black Donnellys: The new episode "The World Will Break Your Heart" perpetuates that obsolete stereotype of Irish wakes as rowdy affairs. Slain ringleader Huey's wake is held at the Firecracker, for starters. There's no beer, but Kevin and Joey Ice-Cream (Billy Lush, Keith Nobbs) score some kosher wine for the occasion. Jimmy (Thomas Guiry) shows up high on drugs, making Dokey (Peter Greene) suspicious and leading to some tense moments.

Tuesday

8 p.m. on NBC

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Being married to Brooke Shields wasn't enough? Sheesh. The former child model guest stars in "Siren Call" as a supermodel whose husband is implicated in the death of a cop's teenage stepdaughter. The girl liked to party, so Goren and Eames (Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe) start their investigation with the party scene. But cell phone records and an exboyfriend's testimony point to an affair with the older guy.

Wednesday

8 p.m. on CBS

Criminal Minds: The clock is ticking for the BAU, which has 48 hours to find out if terrorists will attack in the United States, and if so, where. In "Lessons Learned," new team member Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) travels to Guantanamo Bay with Gideon and Reid (Mandy Patinkin, Matthew Gray Gubler) to interrogate the leader of a terrorist sleeper cell. She is fluent in Arabic, so her presence is a big plus ... as is Reid's fluency in body language.

9 p.m. on NBC

Medium: The family that sees ghosts together ... . In the episode "Mother's Little Helper," Allison (Patricia Arquette) has her daughter Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva) with her when they find the bodies of a mother and daughter. Next thing you know, they're dreaming in tandem about the crime, but from very different angles. Now we get to find out if, when solving murders through psychic powers, two heads are better than one.
