South End teachers honored at Golden Apple

Mayhew
Educator Nicole Mayhew was recently honored as Santa Rosa County's Teacher of the Year at the annual Golden Apple Celebration, presented by the Santa Rosa Education Foundation. Mayhew, who teaches first grade at West Navarre Primary School, has 11 years of experience in her field and is a product of the education system she now represents.

"I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a small child," Mayhew said. "I remember how I use to line my teddy bears on my bed and folded brown pieces of paper as textbooks. This just went beyond my wildest imagination!"

Oriole Beach Elementary School's Gifted Education Instructor Erin Tracy was a finalist and Gulf Breeze High School's Eric Miles was a semifinalist.

Tracy has taught for 10 years, five of which were at Oriole Beach.

Miles is an eight-year education veteran who teaches social studies, advanced placement courses in government, politics and economics. Miles is also a highly esteemed varsity girls soccer coach.
