Gulf Isle Neighbors lay cards on the table for annual charity event

Both ladies and gentlemen' did indeed attend the Gulf Isle Neighbor's (GIN) Annual Game Day; 117 of them in fact. It was held at the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church on February 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event grossed about $3,500. Card tables were set for Bridge, Canasta, Poker, Bunco, Mahjongg; and each table was full of players. This is GIN's major fundraiser. The money the groups nets will be awarded to their charity, Alzheimer Family Services, at the May meeting which will take place at the Andrews Institute. The GIN Board, the Committee Chairman and the members worked very hard to make this event a smashing success. The next luncheon meeting will be March 14 at the Pensacola Yacht Club. Historical Society of Gulf Breeze

On Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. the Gulf Breeze Historical Society will present a program about the "Cole Family Civil War Letters" with featured speaker Amy Stevenson. The meeting will be held at Gulf Breeze Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive.

Holley Navarre Senior Association/Friends of the Navarre Library

Holley Navarre Senior Association and Friends of the Navarre Library held a joint pancake breakfast and book sale on Saturday, February 10 at the Navarre Senior Center. The breakfast was held from 7 - 10:30 a.m. and cost from $3 to $5 depending on the order. Approximately 150 people attended. The Friends of Navarre held a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and made about $2,000. The two organizations teaming up brings people to both the breakfast and the book sale

Senor Citizens who are 50 or older are eligible to be a part of this prestigious group. They offer the breakfast every second Saturday of each month; Bingo every Monday and Wednesday; bridge every Tuesday and Thursday; and many days they display the crafts made by the seniors. The Gulf Breeze Hospital Auxiliary

The Gulf Breeze Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with their annual card party and luncheon on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church. Attendees can play the game of their choice, such as board games or card games. There will be many opportunities for door prizes as well as the "Pot of Gold."

Tickets are $20 and include lunch. Lunch will be catered by Norma's and will include homemade desserts and beverages. Tickets are on sale at the Gulf Breeze Hospital Gift Shop as well as from Auxiliary members. Proceeds from the party and all other fundraisers will be donated to the hospital for special equipment and other patient services. For details, call Faye Cibula at 932-5270.

West Florida Literary Federation (WFLF)

West Florida Literary Federation (WFLF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the unique culture and literature of West Florida. The group is calling all writers. West Florida Literary Federation's Emerald Coast Review (ECR) XIII is hosting its annual writing contest. The writing contest includes poetry, short stories and creative nonfiction with a limit of 2,500 words. Each category's prizes are first place, $150; second place, $100; and third place, $50. The winners will be published in the fall 2007 issue of ECR. The deadline is April 1. The entry fee is $15 per three poems, per story or creative nonfiction.
