The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin soccer program had more to smile about last week as defender Kristi Lee signed a scholarship to the University of South Alabama.
"They're getting a truly gifted athlete who seems the field really well," head coach Eric Miles said.
Lee had three goals and seven assists for the Lady Dolphins, who recently finished their season with a 24-5-3 mark and a state runner up trophy.
"The players were very welcoming and their coach was awesomely awesome," said Lee, who played varsity soccer for GBHS for two seasons.
When Lee made her visit a couple of months ago, she found out that some of her future teammates that played in the back didn't like it back there.
"Hopefully, I can get in there and show them what I can do," Lee said.
The Lady Jags went 7-11-1 last season, losing to Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Lee's the first GBHS player to sign with a Division I school since Shannon Wing (Central Florida) and Annie Adams (Florida) did in 2003.
