Weekly Best Bets

                            Thursday

                        7 p.m. on CBS
Survivor: Fiji: Fourteen seasons - can you believe
it? Tonight we meet 19 new contenders who will
vie to be the last one standing and win big bucks and
bragging rights in the granddaddy of modern competitive
reality shows. This season's new twist has the
tribes in two very different camps - one well-appointed,
one spartan, but both containing hidden Immunity
Idols. Yes, the Exile Island gimmick is back as well.
May the best castaway win!
                            Friday
                    7 p.m. on CBS
Ghost Whisperer: Stop the dead cheerleader,
save the world ... or at least the competition.
Singer Mary J. Blige guest stars in this new
episode as the coach of a high-school cheerleading
          squad whose members are being
knocked out of commission by a series of
freak accidents. Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt)
discovers it's the work of a deceased
cheerleader with a grudge. She must counsel
not only the ghost but the coach, whose personal
issues are interfering with her work.

                        8 p.m. on NBC
Las Vegas: Has anybody seen their mummy? An
Egyptian mummy is stolen en route to the Montecito,
where it's supposed to be part of a special exhibit. The
police are unable to investigate, so it's up to Ed, Danny,
Mike and Delinda (James Caan, Josh Duhamel,
James Lesure, Molly Sims). That leaves Mary (Nikki
Cox) to deal with another thief in the hotel. Sam
(Vanessa Marcil) gets an intriguing offer in the new
episode "Pharaoh 'Nuff."
                            Saturday
                        8 p.m. on ABC
Bringing Down the House: If you like Steve Martin
as a wild and crazy guy, you might be a little put off
by his performance in this 2003 comedy, which
casts him as a straight-laced, divorced lawyer
named Peter. But his co-star, Queen Latifah,
brings lots of fun. She plays Peter's online pen
pal, a bawdy escaped convict who wreaks
havoc on his carefully ordered world when
they meet in person. Eugene Levy and Joan
            Plowright also star.
                                    Sunday
                              7 p.m. on CBS
                The 49th Annual Grammy Awards:
Let's hope for no wardrobe malfunctions this
time. A performance by Justin Timberlake and
a duet partner to be chosen by viewer votes

during the show is expected to be a highlight of this
year's music awards gala. But it's one of many. The
performer list also includes Beyonce, the Dixie Chicks,
Gnarls Barkley and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are
all up for multiple awards. Let the tunes begin!
                      9:01 p.m. on ABC
Brothers & Sisters: Move over, Thelma and
Louise! Nora (Sally Field) hooks up - no, not like that
- with her friend Emily (Margot Kidder) for a Valentine's
Day dinner and ends up going for a ride that
could mean big trouble. Did we mention that Emily is
kind of a free spirit? Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths
and Ron Rifkin also star in the new episode "Valentine's
      Day Massacre."
                              Monday
                        7 p.m. on FOX
24: It's not "double your pleasure" if you're Jack
Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), but this new two-hour
episode is a treat for fans. With the country still reeling
from the attacks, Jack's up against one of the craziest
situations of his career. And Vice President Daniels
(guest star Powers Boothe) is getting in deeper, as is
Pollock (guest star Chad Lowe). Schedule those snack
and potty breaks accordingly, or make sure the pause
button on your DVR is working.
                        8 p.m. on NBC
Heroes: A hero's work is never done. In the new
episode "Run," Matt (Greg Grunberg) becomes an assassin's
target when he goes to work as a bodyguard
for a crooked lawyer. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is
also in danger after finding another person on the list.
A shocking revelation about Claire's (Hayden Panettiere)
real father leads to a crisis for her adoptive mom
(Ashley Crow). Hiro and Ando's (Masi Oka, James
Kyson Lee) quest for the sword is interrupted.
                              Tuesday
                        7 p.m. on FOX
American Idol: Now that those pesky and sometimes
painful audition rounds are over, it's down to
business, as those who got the golden ticket to Hollywood
get a chance to show their stuff once more in
front of judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon
Cowell. Traditionally they perform in groups of three, so
a lot is riding on their ability to "play well with others."
You can't vote yet, so if you have a favorite already,
cross your fingers for him or her to make the final 24.
                          Wednesday
                        8 p.m. on FOX
American Idol: Did your favorite make the cut?
You'll find out in this new episode as Ryan, Randy,
Paula and Simon deliver good news to 24 would-be
Idols and send the rest home. Then we get down to
the serious competition next week, as the semifinalists
try to make it all the way. Expect lots of tears, cheers
and attitude - which is what makes this show so
much fun.
