GBHS' Randel state-bound for third consecutive year
Schmitt also to compete at Feb. 10 state meet

Adrienne Randel set a sectional record in qualifying for the next weekend's state weightlifting meet in New Port Richey.

Randel clean and jerked 145 pounds on her way to winning the sectional title in her weight division with a total of 285 pounds lifted.

But for the first time, she won't be going alone.

Farah Schmitt took home second place in her weight division, benching 130 lbs. and cleaning 130 lbs. for a 260 total. This will be Schmitt's first state tournament meet. Lauren Ladd and Ann Marie Chilton both finished fourth, one place shy of qualifying for state. Ladd lifted a total of 215 lbs. (110/105), while Chilton lifted 245 lbs. (120/125).

All three totals for Chilton were personal bests.

Brittany Wheeler also set personal bests in all three (120/135 - 255), finishing seventh in her weight class.

Ashley Thibodeaux (110/120 - 230) finished eighth. Thibodeaux's bench press was a new personal best.
