GALLERY NEWS Just in time for Valentine's Day, four painters and a jeweler: Eve Wilcox, Julia Johnson, Betty Jackson and Elaine Savige are opening a new show to delight all sweethearts at Quayside Gallery Feb. 2 to March 21 with a reception Feb. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. Eve Wilcox will feature parrots and flowers that are vibrant and full of color. She says her paintings start with an idea, sometimes a small sketch or a passing scene. From there it grows into a composition. Born in Nicaragua, Julia Johnson likes to paint natural scenes that promote awareness of the beauty around us. One of her paintings, "Tropical Fruits Market," is a good example of the color and beauty she sees in a simple every day subject. Betty Jackson will have all oils in the show. Why oils? Jackson says they are so forgiving and you can actually blend and develop values on the canvas as you work. That special sheen and quality associated with oils can be seen in her painting, "Apple Blossoms." Changing to a different medium and offering more variety for the sweetheart who enjoys some "Bling, bling" in their life is jeweler, Elaine Savige. Her collection will feature dichroic glass and vintage jewelry in necklaces, bracelets and pendants. Quayside Gallery is located at 15-17 E. Zarragossa St. downtown Pensacola. For more information call 438-2363 or visitwww. quaysidegallery. com The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Blue Morning Gallery features photographers Blue Morning Gallery is featuring photography and jewelry work of Margret Hildreth with the watermedia and oils or painter, Dr. Morris Eaddy from February 19 until March 24. A special reception of "For the Love of Art," and a chance to meet the two artists will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on February 23. In her photography, Hildreth expresses herself in an almost magical manner. She has an eye for the micro-realistic; and she focuses in on a world that would ordinarily be missed. Her "fotografs" express the dedication of a parade of tiny ants inside a dandelion; the work of Mother Nature in the colorful swirls in a dock pattern; the tranquility of rays of sunshine beaming through the branches of an old oak; the splendor of a total lunar eclipse to the majesty of a bumble bee gathering pollen from a colorful flower. Eaddy's interest in people and their experiences as they journey through life is especially reflected in his portraiture and figurative paintings. In these paintings he attempts to capture a sense of the person's unique personality. His primary criteria for a painting are that the subject or concept be interpreted visually as interesting and entertaining and that it has an emotional connection with the viewer. He is especially fascinated by the vivid use of color in his portrait, figurative, landscape, floral and abstract paintings. Blue Morning Gallery is located at 112 Palafox Place, just north of the Saenger Theatre. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
