Weekly Best Bets

Thursday

7 p.m. on ABC

Ugly Betty: The Halloween episode "The Lyin', the Watch and the Wardrobe" had a lot of fans going, "Boo!" The reason? Betty's (America Ferrera) love life, which looked as if it might take a promising turn away from whiny Walter. But nooo! Romance isn't Betty's big concern right now anyway; she has to find out which of Daniel's recent conquests has his missing watch.

9 p.m. on CBS

Shark: It's not what it looks like. No, really, it isn't. In "Dial M for Monica," a young prosecutor and a prostitute are found dead in a car. The investigation gets complicated for Stark (James Woods) when he learns the dead woman worked for a madam (Kari Matchett) with whom he has a past.

Friday

8 p.m. on NBC

Las Vegas: Every casino should offer self-improvement services on the side. In this episode, Ed (James Caan) enlists Mike and Danny (James Lesure, Josh Duhamel) to help improve a high roller's image with his wife. Mary (Nikki Cox) resolves to conquer her biggest fear and asks Adam Carolla (guest starring as himself) to help.

9 p.m. on CBS

NUMB3RS: With a name like Hoyle, you think she'd play by the rules. In the conclusion of the two-part story that opened the season, teacher Crystal Hoyle (Kim Dickens) is still on the loose. The FBI has caught her young student boyfriend (David Gallagher), but now she's got Megan (Diane Farr).

Saturday

5 p.m. on TBS

Men in Black: Blink and you'll miss one of the best jokes in this tongue-in-cheek 1997 sci-fitale: a wall of mug shots that reveals some of Earth's more colorful celebrities to actually be aliens. They're everywhere, and they're aiming to destroy the Earth. That's where Jay and Kay (Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones) come in. Newly paired by the supersecret federal agency that employs them, they're sent off to stop the extraterrestrial aggressors.

7 p.m. on CBS

NCIS: Cell phones can be annoying, but in this episode, it's a cell phone that helps the NCIS team solve a crime. A body is found in a Civil War-era tomb, but it's not a Civil War-era body; it's a missing staff sergeant who apparently was buried alive. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and company trace the calls made from a phone buried with the man, which leads them to a map he was trying to protect.

Sunday

7 p.m. on CBS

Cold Case: Two murders from 2002 that have haunted Miller (Tracie Thoms) for years have her revisiting her days working under cover. The victims were very different - one was a wealthy suburban teen, the other a drug dealer from the projects - but they happened at the exact same time, and both were meth-related.

8 p.m. on CBS

The Valley of Light: Misery loves company, and the latter does a great deal to alleviate the former in this

touching new Hallmark Hall of Fame drama set in

1946. Chris Klein ("Election") stars as a young

veteran who returns from the war to find his family and home gone. A mysterious older man (Robert Prosky) leads him to a new place and a new love: a young widow (Gretchen Mol).

Monday

8 p.m. on LIFE

Angels Fall: Fans of Nora Roberts' suspense filled romance novels will be in TVmovie heaven over the next few weeks if they make a Monday-night date with Lifetime. The first of several new adaptations of Roberts' books stars Heather Locklear as a chef who

settles in a small Wyoming town after being

traumatized by a shooting back east. She witnesses a murder in her new hometown but has trouble getting anyone to believe her.

9 p.m. on CBS

CSI: Miami: Talk about art imitating life! Nikka La Rue, sister of Eva La Rue, who plays Natalia, guest stars in "Darkroom" as a reporter. Natalia's sister is kidnapped. And the story is based on something that happened to Nikka in real life. Cue the "Twilight Zone" theme!

Tuesday

8 p.m. on ABC

Big Day: Someone call AAA. The sitcom's short season winds down with a pair of new episodes, starting with "The Ceremony." Alice and Danny (Marla Sokoloff, Josh Cooke) are eloping, but their car breaks down, forcing a change in plans.

9 p.m. on ABC

Boston Legal: Denny Crane and Bethany Horowitz are history, but we haven't seen the last of her, and that's a good thing. In the new episode "Dumping Bella," she represents the animal rights activists who attacked her mom (Delta Burke), who's not only Denny's new lover, but also his client.

Wednesday

7 p.m. on NBC

Friday Night Lights: The playoffs are coming! So let's put aside our little problems and focus on the game. Like that'll happen. With Taylor's (Kyle Chandler's) issues with Smash (Gaius Charles), a budding friendship between Julie and Tyra, and Jason and Lyla's engagement causing problems with Buddy (Brad Leland), it's drama time in Dillon in this new episode.
