Basketball teams lose to Pine Forest, Milton, Washington
Freshman suffers neck injury in Pine Forest loss

Playing in one of the state's toughest districts continued to take its toll on the young GBHS boys and girls basketball teams, losing to Pine Forest, Milton and Washington last week.

Pine Forest 56, Dolphins 45

Gulf Breeze got to within single digits in the final minute before a pair of Eagle free throws made it an 11-point martin Jan. 9..

Bryan Shreve had 15 points for the Dolphins (4-14), while Jeff White had 11, Alec Cann six, Matt Patrick five, Dustin Clements three, David Hibberts and Dane Baker two each and Marcus Smith one.

White was 5-for-7 from the field and also had three steals. Hibberts had a team-high nine rebounds and four steals.

Pine Forest won despite shooting 6-for-22 from the free throw line.

Milton 70, Dolphins 38

Milton's Adam Allen, a University of Florida signee, broke the 2,000 point mark for his career in a win Friday in Milton.

Shreve tied a career-high with 19 points and five threepointers. White added six points, while Patrick and Smith had four each, Stuart Franklin three and Eric Mims two.

Washington 76, Dolphins 31

The Wildcats scored 20 points off of 28 Gulf Breeze turnovers in a win Saturday in Gulf Breeze.

Smith had eight points for the Dolphins, while Patrick had seven points, Baker six, Matt Catellier and Blake Rankin three each and Mims and Shreve two each.

Shreve had five rebounds, while Catelllier had three assists.

Pine Forest 61, Lady Dolphins 25 The Lady Dolphins (2-15) shot 2-for-15 from the field in the second half, allowing the Lady Eagles to pull away Jan. 9.

Deannette Zuniga had eight points for Gulf Breeze, while Jordan Smith and Christine Hay had six each, Tayler Challenor three, Danielle Butler two and Tobie Bass one.

Milton 48, Lady Dolphins 32

Gulf Breeze got to within 10 with three minutes left, but couldn't get to within single digits Friday in Gulf Breeze.

Zuniga had nine points for the Lady Dolphins, while Jamie Beeler and Bass had six each, Sarah Munsch four and Challenor, Erin Powell and Hay had three each.

Challenor had seven rebounds and three assists, while Beeler and Munsch had six boards and Bass and Smith five each.

Washington 61,

Lady Dolphins 18

A short-handed Lady Dolphin squad committed 27 turnovers against the state's topranked team Saturday.

Natalie Alverson led GBHS with seven points, while Powell had six points, Zuniga three and Hay two.

Washington JV 42,

Dolphins 40 The Wildcats hit a bucket at the buzzer to beat Gulf Breeze Saturday. The game had a bit of controversy - with 1:50 left in the game, a Dolphin player fouled out. During the allotted 30 seconds before a player could be substituted in, the officials allowed the Wildcats to inbound the ball with only four GBHS players on the court. They scored a bucket - and it was allowed to stand.

Kyle Schnackenberg had 21 in the loss.

Pine Forest JV 64,

Dolphins 58

Schnackenberg again scored 21 points, but again, it wasn't enough for a win Jan. 9. Washington ninth grade 75,

Thomas Dorsey's 12 points led the Dolphins Saturday. Pine Forest ninth grade 68,

Dolphins 53

Joey Bodovetz scored 11 points before sustaining a neck injury in a loss to Pine Forest.

Play was halted for 30 minutes as paramedics were called to take Bodovetz to the hospital. He was moving his arms and legs before being placed on the stretcher. It was ruled a sprain as Bodovetz dressed, but didn't play, against Washington.

Natalie Newell and Emily Chastain both had five points in a narrow loss Jan. 9.

Milton JV 63,

Brittany Clay scored 17 of her 20 points in the first half in a loss to Milton Friday.

Lady Dolphin JV 30,

Navarre 28 (OT)

Clay had 10 points and Tristan Powers five in an overtime win Jan. 4 at Navarre.

Maggie Mitchell's three points were tops for Gulf Breeze in a loss to Milton Friday.

Rachel Viglione had six points for Gulf Breeze in a loss to Navarre Jan. 4, while Mitchell had three.
