Navarre basketball takes two from Dolphins
The Raiders (6-6) were 9-for- 11 from the field in the fourth quarter, ending the game on a 15-4 run. The Dolphins' Jeff White scored off an offensive rebound to make it 7-5 Dolphins late in the first quarter. It was be the only second chance points Gulf Breeze scored all game, as they led 10-7 after one. The Raiders started the second quarter with an 8-0 run as the Dolphins went four minutes without a field goal. Bryan Shreve, who had a team-high seven points, scored off a David Hibberts pass for the first hoop of the quarter, which ended with Navarre up 10 (25-15). The Raiders led by as many as 13 in the third quarter before buckets from Shreve and Brandon Creager pulled the Dolphins within nine (33-24) after three. A steal and layup by Marcus Smith got Gulf Breeze to within seven with about six minutes left before the Raiders went on their game-ending run. The Raiders had three players finish in double figures - Brandon Penn had 14, Charles Windfelder added 11 and Russell Martens 10. Eric Mims had seven points for Gulf Breeze, while Matt Patrick had five, White four, Hibberts, Smith and Creager two each and Dane Baker one. Patrick had five rebounds for Gulf Breeze (4-11, 1-8 in District 1-4A), who were on the short end of a 34-25 rebounding edge. Lady Raiders 47, Gulf Breeze 27 Navarre's Jessica Chambers was three points shy of outscoring the entire Lady Dolphin squad Friday, finishing with 25, to lead the Lady Raiders past Gulf Breeze. Gulf Breeze (2-12, 0-10) was 3-for-18 from the field in the first half, with 16 turnovers, as the Lady Raiders (8-10, 5-6) led 20-6 at the break. Deannette Zuniga, who had a team-high seven points, scored early in the second quarter to make it 13-6. It would be their only points of the second quarter. The Lady Dolphins got back to within single digits when Natalie Alverson's jumper made it 29-20. But one of Navarre's seven three-pointers would make it a 12 point lead after three quarters. Tayler Challenor and Sarah Munsch both had six points for Gulf Breeze, while Tobie Bass had four, Alverson and Jordan Smith two each and Christine Hay one. Erin Powell had a team-high six rebounds for the Lady Dolphins, who were on the short end of a 39- 23 rebounding margin. Navarre outrebounded Gulf Breeze 14-5 on the offensive end. Zuniga had five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Challenor had four steals and Bass five blocked shots. Navarre JV 68, Dolphins 51 The Raiders used a 23-14 third quarter to pull away from the Dolphins (3-9). Kyle Schnackenberg had 13 points in the loss, while Colin Kupris had 12. Woodham 56, Dolphins 43 The Titans used another strong third quarter to pull away from Gulf Breeze Jan. 2 at Ransom Middle School. The game was moved there due to buckling in the Titans' home floor. In an earlier meeting, Woodham used a 13-3 third quarter run on their way to a 61- 48 win over the Dolphins. Last week, it was the wrong end of a 16-7 third quarter run that did the Dolphins in. Gulf Breeze used some strong outside shooting to hold an 18-16 first quarter lead. The Dolphins made five three-pointers in the first eight minutes, three of them coming from Shreve. Shreve finished with a career-high 19 points on 5-for-9 shooting from three-point range. He also had a team-high six rebounds. The Titans jumped out to a 24-20 lead early in the second quarter before the Dolphins would tie it at 25. Woodham, who led 27-25 at the half, went on an 11-1 run to open the second half. Gulf Breeze got to within single digits late in the quarter before a steal and layup made it 43-32 Titans after three. Mims scored eight points for Gulf Breeze, while Stuart Franklin added three, Patrick and Derek Orban two each and White one. Gulf Breeze shot 4-for-19 from the free throw line (21 percent) and were outrebounded 34-21, including 11-3 on the offensive end. Woodham 64, Lady Dolphins 33 Gulf Breeze shot 20 percent from the field in the opening quarter as Woodham led by 18 at the half on their way to their 13th win of the season. Jamie Beeler led Gulf Breeze with 10 points and seven rebounds. Zuniga had seven points, while Alverson had six, Bass five, Munsch and Smith two each and Powell one. Smith and Munsch both had seven rebounds for Gulf Breeze, but were outrebounded 40-32 as a team. Dolphin JV 64,Woodham 52 Schnackenberg had 20 points, including four threepointers, while Kupris had 16 and Bryce Denson 15, including four three-pointers. Woodham ninth grade 53, Dolphins 25 Joey Bodovetz had nine points for Gulf Breeze (2-8), while Thomas Dorsey added seven. |
