Lady Dolphin soccer team hands Washington first loss of season, 3-0
The win for the Lady Dolphins (16-3-3) was the first in the last four meetings with the Lady Cats (14-1-3), who tied Gulf Breeze 0-0 earlier this season and ended the Lady Dolphins' season last year in the regional final. Gulf Breeze needed only three minutes to score the game's first goal. Cayla Platt's cross from the right side was jarred free from the keeper from Aubrey Curington, who put it away for the 1-0 lead. Lindsey Williams, whose 40- yard shot ended the Lady Dolphins' season a year ago, hit the left post with a shot in the 10th minute. Four minutes later, Gulf Breeze took a 2-0 lead when Platt put a pass from Noelle Robles into the back of the net. Williams launched a long shot that was smothered by Kathy Franklin a few minutes later. Kim Mejia, whose two goals helped the Lady Cats beat Gulf Breeze in a regular season game last year, hit the right post in the 25th minute. Both Mejia and Williams fired shots on goal in the final three minutes of the half, but neither found the mark. GBHS led 2-0 at the break.
Curington also had a shot at a second goal in the 74th minute, but was called offsides moments before putting away a pass from Brittany Pyle. Gulf Breeze had 14 shots on goal in the game, while Franklin had three saves. Lady Dolphins 4, Tallahassee Lincoln 1 Maggie Rodgers, playing in her first game in more than a month after breaking a bone in her leg, had a hat trick on Saturday to lead the Lady Dolphins past Lincoln. Rodgers' first goal came in the 19th minute when she finished off a pass from Kristen Barona. Rodgers dribbled through three defenders before putting the shot away.
Minutes after a Jessica Majewski shot bounced off the crossbar, Lincoln cut GBHS' lead in half on a goal in the 58th minute. But a minute later, Rodgers scored off another Barona pass to make it 3-1. Rodgers would head in a Begley corner with two minutes left to round out the scoring. Franklin made two saves in the win, while Anne Preston had one. Lady Dolphins 12, Milton 1 Begley recorded a hat trick on Senior Night as Gulf Breeze rolled past Milton Jan. 3. Begley, Lee and Patterson were honored before the start of the match.
