GBHS Interact collects 2,000 cans for recent Caring and Sharing campaign

Submitted Photo Job well done Stephanie Duffy's math class were awarded a pizza party recently for collecting the most cans for GBHS' recent Caring and Sharing campaign.

A Thanksgiving food drive was held at Gulf Breeze High recently to contribute to the community's needy via Caring and Sharing. Over 2,000 items were collected by students. The drive was organized by the Interact Club and students were encouraged to bring in donations to their fifth period class only.

The fifth period class bringing the most items received free pizza courtesy of the Interact Club. Mrs. Barbara Atchison also helped toward this effort by having National Honor Society members bring in food items also.

Mrs. Stephanie Duffy's math class brought in the most items and they were the winners of a pizza party with pizza being provided for the class by the Interact Club.

GBHS AFJROTC aided in getting the food delivered to Caring and Sharing at Holly Navarre Intermediate School. The Interact Club members also helped Caring and Sharing directly by helping to sort, box and distribute donated items at Holly Navarre Intermediate. Club members will also be helping at Oriole Beach Elementary for the Christmas Caring and Sharing food drive December 15-16.

The students and parents want to thank all those who helped to make the food drive a success.

The Interact Club also participated in the Samaritan's Purse project in November where they filled a dozen shoe boxes with toys and other gifts for kids of all ages in third world countries. Several members of the club packed and wrapped the packages and wrote letters to the kids in hopes of getting letters back from them.

Interact will also have their annual valentine flower sale in February. Proceeds from this event are applied toward scholarships for senior members of the Interact Club.
