Peace is calm amid the storm
      Advent/Christmas is a season when we think especially about peace. We remember the words of the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, who spoke of the time when people would "beat swords into plowshares, nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more," a time when "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb.

A joyous occasion
      The JOY FOR THE BEACH singers give all in attendance a nice helping of Christmas spirit with joyful songs and sing alongs. Over 300 guests enjoyed a 75-minute JOY FOR THE BEACH concert, presented by The Pensacola Beach Optimist Club (PBOC), held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church on the island Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Campanella will chair SRIA board
      The Island Authority's only elected member was elected chair of the panel for 2008. Dr. Thomas Campanella, the representative for Pensacola Beach, will succeed Vernon Prather as chairman. Vice President will be John Peacock, Secretary/Treasurer will remain Tammy Bohannon and Acting Secretary will be Fred Gant. The slate was proposed by member Ed Guernsey.

Deadline to register to vote is Dec. 31
Primary is Jan. 29
      Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David H. Stafford reminds voters that Dec. 31 is the last day to register to vote for those who wish to cast a ballot in the Jan. 29, 2008 Presidential Preference Primary election, which includes the Constitutional Amendment on property tax reform.

This first Christmas without Momma evokes so many memories
      This is going to be my first Christmas without my mother. She is on my mind a lot these days. We put her in the ground last summer, and maybe because she was ill for so many years and it was a very long goodbye, I felt almost a relief when she finally quit fighting and let life go.
