Woodlawn Beach seeking donations for winning Robotics team

Woodlawn Beach Middle School is seeking financial help to send its Robotics team to the South's 'BEST' competition next month at Auburn University.

The team from WBMS advanced to the competition by winning the BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) award, as well as the winning the Best Oral Presentation at the Emerald Coast BEST Robotics competition recently at UWF.

This year's competition - 2021 … a Robot Odyssey - required the homemade robots to traverse the surface of Mars, pick up supplies and deliver them to a depot within three minutes. Teams earned points for the different supplies delivered. Teams also were scored on a notebook detailing their robot construction, a presentation and team spirit.

"The team will be competing against teams from all over the Eastern region of the United States," said WBMS Robotics sponsor Shannon Ferrell in a letter to area businesses.

For more information, call WBMS at 934-4010.
