Arnold wins battle of marine mascots
Dolphins still control playoff destiny despite 31-17 loss to Marlins
      Coach Chris Nemith felt like his team was prepared and felt good about their chances before their District 1-3A clash with Arnold Friday. He was anything but good afterwards as the Marlins hit the Dolphins on three big scoring plays to beat the Dolphins 31- 17 at Dolphin Stadium.

      Optimist Golf Tournament rescheduled The Optimist Club of Gulf Breeze eighth Annual Golf Tournament, which was scheduled for last Friday, has been rescheduled for Nov. 9. at Osceola Golf Course in Pensacola. Lunch will be served from 10:30-11:40 a.m. Shotgun start is at noon. Additional golfers and sponsors are welcome.

GBHS sends 12 to swimming regionals
      A total of 12 GBHS swimmers will compete in today's Region 1-2A meet in Tallahassee as a result of their efforts at Saturday's District 1- 2A meet at The Club. Aileen Atzhorn, Michala Nowak and Jacqueline St. Louis qualified in four events, while Ross Davis, Ross Gunn, Ashley Ogurek, Ellyn Schroeder, Koren Schroeder and Shane Thames all qualified in three events.

Lady Dolphins aim for playoff berth
Short-handed GBHS needed win Tuesday to play in tonight's final
      The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin volleyball team hopes to still be playing this season by the time they read this. If they are, that means the Lady Dolphins will have already clinched a playoff spot and are playing in tonight's District 1- 4A championship match, most likely against Navarre.

Girls cross country third, boys fourth at Wildcat Invitational
      The Gulf Breeze girls cross country team took third and the boys fourth at the Wildcat Invitational Oct. 16 in Pace. Gulf Breeze finished with 85 points, which was bettered by only Murphy, out of Mobile (59) and Pine Forest (73). A total of 11 full teams competed in the meet.

'72 Dolphins get first win
      The 1972 Dolphins got their first win of the season this week, defeating Pensacola School of Liberal Arts 25-0. Lonnie Murphy scored two touchdowns on runs of two and 70 yards in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. Tony Barberi caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kenny Johnson, while Kenneth Hardy scored from two yards out in the third quarter.

      Jason McKie (GBHS c/o '98) came within a yard of his first touchdown in three years in the Chicago Bears' 19-16 come from behind win over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.

TP Mini Mites still playoff bound despite loss to Ensley
Several local teams still have shot at playoffs
      The Tiger Point Mini Mites led the unbeaten Ensley Blue Chiefs for two and a half quarters before the home team scored three touchdowns for a 20-6 win Saturday. Nicky Myers scored on a 32-yard run with 5:46 left in the second period. But from there, Ensley scored on a nine-yard run with 4:30 left in the third and on a 34-yard run with 19.3 seconds left in the third.
