Instruments donated to south end schools
      Like kids in a candy store, local middle school band directors excitedly sifted through musical instruments piled onstage at Pensacola Junior College's Ashmore Auditorium Sept. 25. Nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of music equipment was distributed to all 17 middle schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties by the nonprofit organization Bravo for Kids.

GB Optimists deemed 'Distinguished'
      Tom Naile, new North Florida District Governor and outgoing treasurer of the Gulf Breeze Optimist Club, received a standing ovation from more than 90 optimists attending the Installation and Awards Banquet, Sept. 18 at St. Ann's Parish Hall.

Paint Santa Rosa Contest adds a third 'Paint Out' location
      Paint Santa Rosa is adding the third outdoor location. The Zoo of Northwest Florida, located at 5701 Gulf Breeze Parkway, is scheduled for a "Paint Out" Saturday, Oct. 6. Artists in the Northwest Florida area are invited paint from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the zoo grounds. The public is invited to come to the zoo and watch the artists on site.

      Gulf Coast Friends Arts and Crafts Fair takes place Nov. 8 at New World Landing in Pensacola. The theme is Winter Paradise. This year local artists will be displaying and selling their works alongside crafters. Doors open at 10a.m.

AARP Driver Safety Classes
      The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Driver Safety class is for people who are 50 and over. Insurance companies give a discount on auto insurance for people over 55 who have taken the course. The course is designed to help one understand the effects of aging on driving and to provide strategies to help compensate for those effects.

Navarre Library Book Sale and 25th Anniversary Celebration
      Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Navarre Library with the Friends of Navarre Library at their annual meeting and book sale on Oct. 12 and 13 at the EH Pullum Senior Center, across from the library. The Friends' annual meeting will be Friday, Oct. 12 from 5 to 6 p.m. and will feature a preview book sale for members only from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

National Quality Month Workshop
      The American Society for Quality (ASQ) Pensacola Section 1507 will present a National Quality Month workshop on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Quality Inn in Gulf Breeze, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration fees received before October 19 will be $55 for ASQ members and $65 for non-ASQ members. After Oct.19 and at the door, fees will be $65 for members and $75 for non-members.
