Construction continues
     Franklin Hayes/Gulf Breeze News Construction continues on two parcels of land near the intersection of U.S. 98 and Sterling Point Drive (pictured above). According to the Santa Rosa County Engineering Department, the property is being developed by Skyline Marketplace Gulf Breeze. Although no final building plans had been submitted as of Sept. 17, construction crews are busy installing underground retention. The developers, based in Atlanta, Ga., did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Local moms plead: 'Oprah, save our zoo!
      Two local women are taking the plight of The Zoo to a higher authority: The Oprah Winfrey Show. "We're just stay at home moms, and we love The Zoo," said Keena Landrum. She and Linda Kellner are faithful watchers of the Oprah show, and one day Landrum visited the show's website where there was a question about "Why is your community so great?

Midway discusses tax bills
      The only tax bills that carried errors among the recent tax notices sent out by the county property appraiser's office were those for Midway Fire District. And it only affected those property owners who have homestead properties. But the mistake was not in the column of how much those taxpayers owe this year. It was in the column of how much they paid last year.

      Regular Fire Commission Meeting - Oct. 9, 7p.m., 1322 College Parkway Gulf Breeze. At this meeting, fire commissioners will discuss the final wording for a proposed referendum scheduled for Jan. 29, 2008.

GB quilter tells her story
      Ruth Hadden is a special "gem" in our community. She and her late husband Stan moved to Gulf Breeze in June of 2002 to be near their daughter Patricia Woodburn who is a local realtor. Ruth's 87th birthday was Jan. 7 and she spent it at her late husband's bedside in the hospital.
