New era, new look '07
      More than 120 kids came out to the first day of football practice at Gulf Breeze High on Monday. The players played in shirts, shorts and helmets, with today marking their first in full pads. This year is new in several ways. It'll be the first in coach Chris Nemith's five years that someone else other than Brad McGuire will be the team's playcaller.

      GBHS QB Club BBQ August 17 The GBHS Intrasquad and Barbecue is August 17 at Dolphin Stadium. Cost is $3 per person. The Quarterback Club will be on hand to register new members and to elicit volunteers for various tasks during the 2007 season.

44-lb. king nets $12K for Team Kingscape
      Team Kingscape, headed by Todd King of Gulf Breeze, caught a kingfish weighing 44 pounds, 9 ounces July 28 to win the Wal-Mart FLW Kingfish Series Upper Gulf Division event in Cocodrie, La., and $12,000 cash. King, along with teammates Summer King, Chris Schulte and Trey Davis.

The three are part of a group of nine returning players and a total of 26 players trying out for the varsity team this week. GBSA 9s take ninth at World Series
      The GBSA U9 All Stars, after getting put into the losers bracket of the Dizzy Dean World Series, won a pair of games before losing for the second time to Fossil Park 8- 6 on July 31. The Wave finished one game away from the overall championship bracket, ending up in a tie for ninth.

GB 6s win two, lose two at Series
      The GBSAU6 All Stars went 2- 2 at the recent Dizzy Dean World Series in McDonough, Ga. Gulf Breeze defeated the Hobgood Heat in their opening round game before losing to the Middle Valley Predators. The Predators would eventually finish fourth in the tournament.

But if you're between the ages of 16 and 31, and haven't yet taken the state's hunter safety class - now's just the time to be thinking about it. Many of these classes, offered statewide, fill up fast during hunting season while people scramble to get certified.

Boating course August 11
      U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-7 of Pensacola will teach America's Boating Course on Saturday August 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at West Marine 3850 Barrancas Ave. Course covers navigation, rules of the road, personal safety equipment, personal watercraft guidelines, boating laws, and boating for hunting, fishing, and water skiing.

      Hello from Paradise! Folks, the big storms have stayed away so far, all is clear and the biggest weather story we have seen with ole Weather Channel Jim reporting on rain off of Texas!!! Now, that the big storms have moved on it has been pretty nice out here on Pensacola Beach with the great weather and good fishing.
