Burn ban lifted
      After consultation with Division of Forestry officials, the burn ban in Santa Rosa County has been lifted. Recent rains and moderate humidity have lead to a drop in the drought index.

      This year's exciting summer program for Tweens (middle school) and Teens (high school) continues the "Mystery@Your Library" theme. Beginning July 16 through August 10, tweens and teens can read for prizes and take part in special events.

Celebrity Chef does not disappoint
      Celebrity chef Robert Irvine joined eat! Chef Alphonse 'Lee' Lucier and Diane M. Henderiks, RD, 'Dietitian in the Kitchen," for an evening of gourmet foods paired with fantastic wines, and the crowd was not disappointed. Irvine is the host of Food Network's Dinner Impossible.

Over 1,000 children enjoy GBUMC Avalanche Ranch
     Between the Main Campus and the Community Life Center of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, over 1,000 children were corralled in to participate in the Avalanche Ranch Vacation Bible School.       City of Gulf Breeze holds final tree giveaway June 30 On Saturday, June 30 the City of Gulf Breeze will continue its tree give away from 7:00am - 1:00pm. Located at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center Parking Lot at 800 Shoreline Dr., the program supports reforestation and is open to city residents only, and ID's will be required.

Hall to bid for second term
      Wendell Hall announced his intention to pursue a third term as Sheriff of Santa Rosa County. Hall says the challenges facing Santa Rosa County over the next five years including rapid population growth as well as the potential for major tax reform require experience at the helm of the Sheriff's Office.

18-ft boat strikes PWC in Navarre
      On June 17, Officer Howard Jones of the Fish and Wildlife Commission responded to a vessel crash near the Navarre causeway. An 18-foot catamaran was eastbound on the Santa Rosa Sound when it struck a personal water craft (PWC). The PWC had been towing a skier and after the skier fell. Tthe PWC circled around to retrieve the fallen female and began to have engine troubles.

Purple Hearts collect funds for military dog memorial
      Sgt. Michele Strigert poses with her canine counterpart Deny from Eglin Air Force Base. The members of Chapter # 56 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) are excited to be apart of a plan to erect and dedicate a monument in honor of military working dogs.

Woman's Club presents awards
Two Gulf Breeze teens honored
      When the GFWC Milton Woman's Club, Inc. presented the 1st Annual Women In The Arts Awards on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium two of the winners were from Gulf Breeze. They were Kate Turner and Claney Outzen. Turner won for Drama and Outzen won for Voice both in the 12-18 years of age group.

Archer Allen's Kid of the Week
      On July 18, Zachary Allen is turning 5. He has two basic desires in life. One is to be a Super Hero who can help good people against the bad guys and the other is to be famous. He feels he can fulfill the first desire but has had problems with the second. He came into my kitchen recently, sat on the bar stool with his arms crossed over his chest and scowled.
