      Last weekend, we headed to our river house for a weekend in the country. We call it the Palace on the Perdido! We invited our friends Perrie Kay and Jerry Edgar. Perrie K., the former Ms. Renfroe, was the lady you remember that invited us to live with her after Dennis took our home for the second time in 10 months. The weather was beautiful, the Perdido was full of rednecks and spring had sprung.

First Brownsville, now Pensacola Beach
Escambia County will assist homeowners in cleanup April 14
      Escambia County Administrator George Touart and Code Enforcement Officer Charlie Walker say they are ready to tackle Pensacola Beach now that they are coming off a successful campaign in Brownsville. The pair surveyed the island and identified remaining hurricane debris such as pieces of concrete or asphalt that need to be removed.

Spring breakers flood beach
      The aroma of suntan lotion wafted through the air last week as hundreds of Spring Breakers began their pilgrimage to the white sands of Pensacola Beach and the green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Cars backed up over the Bob Sikes bridge as visitors began unpacking their luggage in the island's hotel rooms.

Elks blood drive
      Pensacola Beach Elk's Lodge 497, sponsored a blood drive on Saturday, March, 10. Forty-one potential donors signed in with 29 units of blood donated. The Northwest Florida Blood Center staff joined with Darla Richardson, left and Debbie Copeland, far right, blood drive chairpersons from the lodge for this photo after the record breaking blood drive for the Elk's Lodge.

      Spring time is one busy and happily productive time for the Pensacola Beach Optimist Club (PBOC) each year, and 2007 is bursting with activity for the "Friends of Youth".

      She was a very quiet, unassuming woman, saying little, but undoubtedly listening to the conversations of others. She was always courteous, answering directly and succinctly questions directed to her, but she was never one to disclose much about herself.

Gala will benefit beach school
      Pensacola Beach Optimists are planning their annual spring fundraiser, this year entitled "Giddy-Up Gala," April 19 at Flounder's Restaurant, chaired by club treasurer Dave Sundstrom. This event should provide critical funds for youth projects and the Beach School, and attendees can enjoy barbecue, a raffle, happy hour priced beverages, and dancing to the musical talents of Tim Spenser.
