U15 girls squad beats injury riddled U18 Hurricanes to win U18 title
      The Bayside Thunder and Bayside Storm, both U15 teams, won their age groups at last weekend's 24th Gulf Coast Invitational, sponsored by the Bayside Soccer Club.

Dolphin baseball stays unbeaten in district, but win streak snapped
Dolphins host Alabama power Mobile St. Paul's today
      The Gulf Breeze Dolphin baseball team remained unbeaten in district play last week, but had its five game winning streak snapped in game one of a doubleheader Saturday with Alabama Christian. Dolphins 14, Jay 1 (five innings) Michael Thomas threw three innings of no-hit ball, striking out three and throwing only 40 pitches to lead the Dolphins over Jay March 6 in Jay.

      GBHS Carnival through Saturday The Gulf Breeze High Carnival runs through Saturday at the parking lot at Dolphin Stadium. Bracelets are $15 for one day. The carnival is from 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 2-10 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds go to the Gulf Breeze High Quarterback Club.

Powers throws no-hitter in win for JV team
      The Lady Dolphin softball team shook off a rare loss to Catholic to post district wins over Washington and Pine Forest. Catholic 5, Lady Dolphins 3 The Lady Crusaders took advantage of three GBHS errors to score three in the second, then another in the fourth to score two more as they won in Gulf Breeze March 6.

Golf tournaments abound in area
      Several local area businesses and clubs are holding golf tournaments in the coming months. Here are some of them. The Gulf Breeze High Quarterback Club will hold its annual Golf Tournament April 19 at The Moors. Cost is $80 per person, which includes green fees, cart, range balls and a box lunch from Panera Bread before the tournament. Check in starts at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

      The Gulf Breeze News is celebrating the Lady Dolphin soccer team's run to the state championship game with this commemorative CD. The CD contains photos the Gulf Breeze News, as well as some parents, took during their five day sojourn to Fort Lauderdale. It also has all the Gulf Breeze News' coverage of the event.

      The Gulf Breeze High track teams hosted Navarre in a dual meet March 7. The boys lost 107-35, while the girls lost 122-19. Scoring points for the boys team were as follows: Shot put - 1) Zach Permenter (38-0). High jump - 1) Dustin Clements (5-6).

      The GBHS tennis teams bounced back from its first loss of the season to post wins over PHS and Walton. Dolphins help East win All Star Game
      Seven seniors in the GBHS soccer program, along with both its head coaches, helped the East beat the West in the inaugural Pensacola Sports Association All Star Game. Kim Begley and Kristi Lee both had assists for the East in a 5-1 win over the West, while Clarke O'Connor had an assist in the East's 2-0 win.

      The Gulf Breeze weightlifting team won six weight classes in a 47-42 win over PHS March 5. Cory Hebert, Tanner Eagley, Erik Mims, Jonathon Stephens, Pat King and Eric Agricola all won their weight classes.

Marathon runners
      Gulf Breeze resident Rafael Scharron, (left) Joaquin Pereda (middle) and Mark Colbert (stationed at Eglin AFB), all currently serving in the U.S. Air Force, and stationed locally recently ran in the third annual Pensacola Marathon held in downtown Pensacola. They finished the 26.2 mile-long race in about four hours and 47 minutes. Colbert was in his 65th marathon.

U13 Pelicans, U14 Gulf Breeze team take second at GBSA Spring Fling
      The Pensacola Pelicans, a U- 13 Tiger Point-based team, and the 14 under GBSA All Stars both took second at the GBSA Spring Fling March 4. The Pelicans lost to Lost Key 6-5, while Gulf Breeze lost to the Pensacola Trojans 12-2. Jack Sargent had two hits and scored one for Gulf Breeze, while Trevor Challenor and Colin Cahill both had one hit.

      The GBSA basketball season concluded on Feb. 24. The following is a Week 10 recap: 7-8 Coeds Grace 18, Hoskins 7 Hans Schroeder had eight points for Grace; while Bo Fabbro had six and Zach Pohlman and Evan Schulz two each. Owen Hughes had seven points for Hoskins.
