South End health dept. runs out of children’s flu vaccines

Before you take your children to the South Santa Rosa Health Department, call ahead to see if the flu vaccine is available.

Theresa Fretwell, LPN, the immunization nurse with the Health Department, said she orders vaccines from Tallahassee every month and requested an emergency supply for children ages 3-18 which may be in stock this week.

Add to that the limited number of locations to get the vaccine and limited number of days vaccines are administered, and the shot may be hard to obtain.

Vaccines are administered five days a week at the Milton office and two days a week in the South End as a result of to limited staffing.

“The state underfunds our health department, County Commissioner Gordon Goodin said.
