Seibert named Pelicans’ manager

Pensacola Pelicans’ General Manager Talmadge Nunnari didn’t have to look too far for a manager when he unveiled Mac Seibert at a press conference Friday at their soon-to-be opened Training Academy in Pensacola.

“I knew what type of individual I was getting,” said Nunnari, who’s known Seibert for about 15 years.

Seibert takes over for Kash Beauchamp, who was recently names Vice President/Director of Baseball Operations for the South Coast League.

“We’ll put a team in the field you’ll be proud of,” Seibert told a crowd of about 100 people.

Seibert played his college baseball at Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton, Ala. He played for legendary coach Ron Fraser at the University of Miami for one year and at Jacksonville State University for one year.

Seibert played for two seasons with the Detriot Tigers before returning to Jeff Davis as an assistant coach for four years.

He has been an Area Scouting Supervisor for the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays before becoming the Devil Rays’ National Scouting Supervisor in 2000. During that time, he signed current major leagurs Rocco Baldelli, B.J. Upton and Delmon Young.

His most recent baseball job was the vice president of the Baseball Factory and Executive Director of Team One Baseball.

Park update - Pelicans owner Quint Studer told the crowd Friday that he expects the Pelicans to be in their new home in 2008.
