Lady Dolphins basketball team enter break on five-game losing streak

The Lady Dolphin basketball team remained winless in the toughest 4A district in the state after losses to West Florida Tech and sixth-ranked PHS last week.

West Florida Tech 38,

Lady Dolphins 26

The Lady Jaguars, who didn’t win a game all of last season, jumped out to an 8-1 lead on their way to their second win of the season Dec. 12 in Pensacola.

Sarah Munsch led Gulf Breeze (2-10) with six points, while Deannette Zuniga, who suffered a concussion during the game, finished with five points, along with Tayler Challenor.

Tobie Bass had four points, while Christine Hay had three, Danielle Butler two and Jamie Beeler one.

Former Lady Dolphin Melissa Mohr had four points for West Florida Tech.

PHS 56, Lady Dolphins 21

Gulf Breeze trailed by 39 at the half, scoring only nine points, in a loss to the sixthranked Lady Tigers (9-1).

Natalie Alverson led Gulf Breeze with six points. She also had five rebounds and three assists.

Erin Powell and Jamie Beeler both had four points, while Munsch had three and Challenor and Butler two each.

Bass didn’t score, but grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots in the loss.

Zuniga didn’t play Friday (concussion), her first missed game in her young career.

Of Gulf Breeze’s 10 losses, seven of them are against either teams that are currently stateranked

or against teams that made the postseason last year.

Three of those ranked teams are in District 1-4A - top-ranked Washington, PHS and seventhranked Woodham.

PHS JV 35,

Lady Dolphins 34 A offensive rebound and putback with 3.6 seconds left gave the Lady Tigers a come from behind win Friday.

Emily Chastain had 10 points for Gulf Breeze, who led by 10 at the half. Lacie Brothers added eight.

Lady Dolphin JV 28,

West Florida Tech 26

Tristan Powers had 10 points for Gulf Breeze, while Chastain and Stephanie Wright had six each.
