Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News A GBSA soccer team recently walked out with the Lady Dolphins before the start of a recent match.
The Gulf Breeze Lady Dolphin soccer team went 1-2 at the Michelle Akers Classic last weekend in Orlando.

Gulf Breeze, who had given up only four goals in regulation play entering the weekend, gave up a total of four in 2-0 losses to Lake Mary and Winter Springs Saturday. The Lady Dolphins (13-3-3) opened play with a 2-0 win over Deland, a regional semifinalist in 6A last season.

“It was a good learning experience, just because we played teams that are quicker than us,” said coach Eric Miles. “If we can bring that back to Gulf Breeze, it will be good.”

Gulf Breeze was one of 16 teams in the tournament. Of the 16, three of them (2A Heritage Delray, 3A Lake Highland and 4A St. Augustine Nease) are defending state champions, while three others (2A Orangewood, 5A Bloomingdale and 6A tournament hosts Lake Mary) are defending state runners up.

Including their two preseason matches, Gulf Breeze has played 12 matches against teams that were in the playoffs a year ago.
