Cards harder to buy than gifts
Even as I write this, well before you will be reading it, it is pretty late to start sending them out. You should have them ready to go. And not to forget a few extras ready to send out when you receive a card from someone you have forgotten. Like the cousins you never think of except at Christmas, when they send you one of those self-published 'newsletters' of all their doings with voluminous details and more than you ever wanted to know about those grandchildren of theirs, whom you have never seen. And then, of course, there are a few overseas cards you might need to send. Your college roommate or a military family stationed in Germany or somewhere else abroad. And perhaps a far-flung cousin of a cousin you met once on a European trip. Sometimes a neighbor you see every day sends you a card. Can I just say thanks, or had I better send one as well? And don't forget the mailman and his card with perhaps a little 'something' in it. And how about the lawncare worker? He must be starving all winter. Oh well, I'm getting tired, time to hit the sack. ******** Did you know that the Get Healthy Pensacola program at Baptist Hospital gives valuable points when you become a member and participate in the program? These 'points' are redeemable for theatre tickets, gym memberships, meals at the Baptist Hospital, and more. Every two months you will receive a newsletter with health information and descriptions a number of free programs at various locations you can attend. The mailing label on your newsletter also has a tally of the points you have earned so far for your participation. Best of all, it's just $10 for a lifetime membership. For information, call 469 2447. ******** Now that the weather has cooled down, has your enthusiasm for a daily walk become a bit cooler too? Don't despair! A perfect solution is at hand. Join NovaCare's Fitness for Seniors at the Gulf Breeze Recreation Center. This is a class designed specifically for seniors fifty and older. Some of the exercises are seated, and include stretching and strengthening. Low impact aerobics, relaxation techniques. Come join your fellow seniors. You'll have fun and will benefit at the same time. Classes are from 9 until 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is only $2 per class, or $12 per month, and the first class is free. Call 932-9223 for further information. ***** Did you ever wish you could go back to school and learn something new? Maybe a course in something you never took in college, but you have become interested in over the years? Perhaps history, or a foreign language, or creative writing? Or maybe you have decided that, in today's world, you need a knowledge of computers. If so, it's time to call Pensacola Junior College and find out about all the interesting courses awaiting you. The number for the Continuing Education department is (850) 484-1797. ******* 'Tis the season for giving, so remember: Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting. See you next week. |
