Vision
New SRIA member seeks plan for Island
BY LISA NEWELL Gulf Breeze News lisa@gulfbreezenews.com

New Santa Rosa Island Authority Board Member John Peacock wants his stint on the panel to have purpose, and he wants to know what the goal is of the SRIA.

“What are the performance measures for the SRIA?” Peacock asked. “What is our vision ... and what are the actions to support our vision?” he added.

Peacock said the perception of the SRIA is enforcement, not encouraging development on the island.

“We need to shift to a culture of being proactive, not reactive,” he said, adding that the panel should think of ways to keep tourists entertained if weather is inclement or if jellyfish are present in Gulf waters.

Peacock said he recently read a book that encourages organizations to go from “good” to “great.”

“What can we be passionate about? What can we be the best at?” Peacock asked.

Returning board members and General Manager Buck Lee said a compilation of all previous “visioning” exercises will be presented at a January meeting for board members to consider, then prioritize and take action.

The next meeting is Jan. 10 at 5 p.m.
