The Santa Rosa Shores Homeowners Association sponsored Santa Claus in Swenson Park on Tuesday, December 12. Even a light rain could not keep the community children away. Refreshments including apple cider, hot chocolate and a picnic table full of fresh bakes goodies were on hand for some 200 attendees, including surrounding neighbor’s from Villa Venice, volun- tiers from both supporting organizations, and Santa’s helpful friends.
“This event is a great time for the children, a great way to meet your neighbors, and make new friends,” said Fran Fletcher, Santa Rosa Shores Woman’s Club president. The Woman’s Club traditionally bakes and ensures a sweet time.
St. Nick and his special lady elf were familiar faces, (a.k.a. Dan and Kim Mickow) returning to Swenson Park with a few other faithful elf helpers. They hand out a present to every child and share that special excitement that children find in the rewards of cheerful charity. Dan Mickow and his wife have been spreading this Christmas joy to the children of this neighborhood for three years now. The Mickow’s got involved after experiencing how happy a child still in recovery from the devastation of a major hurricane could become from a toy teddy.
Swenson Park has come a long way and continues to be a bright spot for this community.
