Pensacola POPS! launches this weekend
Silver Bullet series presents The Great American Songbook' with vocalist Margaret Carlson

The Silver Bullet Pensacola POPS! season launches this Saturday, October 21, with The Great American Songbook featuring guest vocalist Margaret Carlson. Carlson has made her career exploring the timeless classics of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and George Gershwin. Her performance will include such favorites as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, The Nearness of You, Hello Young Lovers, and Night and Day, to name a few.

"The audience will know most of the numbers I perform with their orchestra, although they will be a bit different from the original, because they were written for me," said Carlson. "Some of the arrangements are strikingly beautiful while others have a playful quality that makes you smile. They make me smile every time I perform them."

Margaret Carlson is an exciting new voice in contemporary music. Crediting such artists as Cleo Laine, Judy Garland, Duke Ellington and Chick Corea as major influences, Carlson has developed a freespirited style all her own. "The skit in the second half of the show is always a surprise," she says. "It's a fun evening!" Throughout her lifetime, she has relied on her considerable talent and ingenuity to cultivate a now-thriving recording career.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre. For ticket information, contact the Pensacola Symphony office at 435-2533 or www.pensaco lasymphony.com.
