Triathlon needs volunteers

On October 7, The Santa Rosa Island Triathalon will be held on Pensacola Beach. This is a large event with over 800 athletes from around the world expected this year.

In addition to the run and biking phases, there is a 600yard swim in the Gulf in the area of Casino Beach. This event has typically donated funds to the Beach School, Pensacola Beach Fire/Rescue and the Pensacola Beach Lifeguards.

Due to the number of swimmers (approximately 100 per wave at five minuteintervals) and the swimming abilities of many of the athletes, Bob West is looking for approximately 30 surfers (although the more the better), preferably on longboards, to assist the Lifeguards and Fire/Rescue with the Gulf swim.

Volunteers will need to arrive at Casino Beach (at Lifeguard Tower 2) by 6:30 a.m. There will be a briefing on how we will all interface and communicate together as well as how an emergency will be handled. We
