Sacred Heart helps smokers kick the habit

Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola will offer its "Freedom From Smoking" program starting Oct. 3 and Oct. 4 to help with the physical, psychological, and habitual components of nicotine addiction.

Participants can choose to attend the seven-week course at sessions in the afternoon or evening. The classes will be held:

Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Oct. 3

Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Oct. 4

All classes will be held at Sacred Heart Hospital and will cost $65 per person. However, the orientation class is free and a limited number of scholarships also are available for the entire program. Space is limited and pre-registration

FluMist, shots available at St. Ann Oct. 7

FluMist, the latest type of flu vaccine, will be among the vaccinations available at St. Ann Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze, on October 7 from 5 to 6 p.m. Other vaccines will be traditional flu, pneumonia, and tetanus shots from $25 to $35 each.

Professional Health Examiners, a local health care provider, will be administering the vaccines. FluMist (Influenza Virus Vaccine Live, Intranasal) is a nasal flu vaccine that provides healthy children, adolescents, and adults, aged 5

to 49, with well tolerated, effective protection against the flu. As Professional Health Examiners is a Medicare provider, the vaccinations are available to those with a Medicare card at no charge,

Even though no vaccine for Avian Bird Flu exists yet, the state of Florida recommends flu vaccines to help reduce the risk of co-infections.

The McCollough Plastic Surgery Consumer Information Center will host a Skin Care Event Friday,October 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1101 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Suite 5. The Obagi representatives will offer a free skin analysis, Obagi products discounted, complimentary wine and cheese.
