Local models to star in Pensacola Opera fashion show

Fall fashions and gourmet food all support a wonderful cause, programs of Pensacola Opera. The Professional and Business Women's Board hosts the 5th annual luncheon and fashion show October 6. Funds raised go to support the opera's many outreach programs. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for the silent auction featuring a magnificent 18K gold and sterling silver necklace by John Hardy, donated by Jeweler's Trade Shop, Inc. and a myriad of other dazzling items. Local artisans will also have tables set up to sell unique scarves, jewelry and other treasures. Luncheon and show begin at 11:30 a.m.

"Ladies can get some great fashion ideas for the festive season just around the corner." said Helan White of Madam De Elegance who is putting on the show.

Models are Ann Brett, Dee Dee Ritchie, Pat Windham, Melanie Passman, Evelyn Davis, Sandra Kay Smith, Val Russenberger, Carol Law, Betty Wasson, Sharon Bourges-Jones, Candy Zulegar, Mary Riesberg, Kathleen McBride, Gracie Papajohn, Meri Asmar and Lynette Wilson.

The event sponsors include Gulf Breeze News and Splash! Magazine.

Concert to benefit Sacred Heart's Miracle Camp

"The Sound of Miracles," a benefit concert for Sacred Heart Health System's Miracle Camp is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Pensacola. The event will feature the 100-voice Concert Choir of the Pensacola Children's Chorus, under the direction of Allen and Susan Pote, and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra with Music Director Peter Rubardt.

This concert marks the only time this year that the Pensacola Children's Chorus will perform with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. Selections to be performed include music of J.S. Bach, a stirring patriotic composition by Randall Stroope, folk songs arranged by Aaron Copland, and an arrangement of "Londonderry Air."

"The Sound of Miracles" will also include a side-by-side

musical set featuring the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra performing with aspiring musicians from area Escambia and Santa Rosa high schools and a young artist concerto performance by Stephanie Bova, a 16-year-old from Gulf Breeze High School, who will play the 1st movement of the Tchaikovsky piano concerto.

Blue Morning Gallery presents 'Stream of Life' show

Blue Morning Gallery presents "Stream of Life", the show featuring artists Marianne McDonald, Mara Viksnins and Robin Zehr. The show runs from Sept. 25 until Nov. 11 with a second showing from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 29. Admission is free and there will be door prizes and an art raffle.

The colorless, transparent liquid that gives life to all living beings is he main emphasis of this new show As in nature, water is a key element in producing art and in this case is also the central topic which concerns the artists in this show.

Marianne McDonald, a marine biology instructor and now full time artists, has painted underwater scenes and also landscapes in which the central theme revolves around rivers, streams and waterfalls. She draws her impressions from her ravels both in the U. S. and in the Caribbean.

Mara Viksnins' work will concentrate on her new series titled, "Coastal Scenes." Her main focus will be semiabstract views of different coastlines. "I use texture to give the viewer a sense of both the rugged and the serene," she says. Her jewelry will include natural stones made smooth by the timeless presence of water.

Robin Zehr is a relatively new member to Blue Morning Gallery but her exquisite pottery has already become well known. Water is the essence behind her ceramic shapes and vessels. They are glazed in nature's colors-beiges, greens and blues.

UWF Theatre department presents 'Piece of My Heart'

The University of West Florida Department of Theatre will present "A Piece of My Heart" Sept. 28 through Oct. 8 in the Studio Theatre in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Sept. 28, 29 and 30 and Oct. 5, 6 and 7. Sunday performances will be held at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 8. Tickets cost $16 per person for adults and $12 per person for senior citizens, active military and UWF faculty and staff. Admission is free for UWF students with a valid Nautilus card.

The ensemble cast is made up of UWF students, and the design team includes Dan Guyette, set designer; Glenn Breed, UWF professor of costume design and technology;

Charles Houghton, UWF Theatre department head, as lighting designer; and Duane Turner, sound designer. Charlotte Guyette, associate professor of theatre at University of South Dakota, serves as guest director.

The play contains adult languages and situations, as well as the use of fog, smoke and gunfire. Due to the configuration of the seating, there will be no admission for latecomers.

'Tiffany By Design' scheduled at PMA

The Pensacola Museum of Art announces its fall blockbuster show "Tiffany by Design." An opening preview reception, open to the public, will be held on Friday, October 20 from 6 8,

and the exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, October 21 at noon. The public has a unique opportunity to view a wide variety of Tiffany lamps, including some examples that are rare and one-of-a-kind.

"Tiffany by Design" will be on exhibition at the Pensacola Museum of Art beginning October 20 and continuing

through January 13, 2007. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students and active military.
