Belmont To Create 'Great Wall of Belmont' Friday, July 14

In conjunction with Gallery Night, the Belmont Arts Center will host a live art participation event on July 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. In Christo-like fashion, the parking lot of the Belmont will be transformed into a public art piece that event attendees will help create.

Materials such as sheets, yarn and wire will be stretched, wrapped and strung around poles, resulting in the "Great Wall of Belmont." This mural of materials will be on display outside the center throughout the summer. Although those interested are encouraged to bring their own materials, a select number will also be available.

The event, held at the Belmont, 401 North Reus St., located inside the window factory in downtown Pensacola, will also include tours of the center and live glass blowing and Raku demonstrations.

The Belmont is encouraging those interested in art to hop on the Gallery Night trolley or park at the Belmont and participate in this fun and interactive event.

The story line: It's 1927 and Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the darlings of the silent silver screen. Offscreen, Don, aided by his happy-golucky friend and piano accompanist, Cosmo Brown, has to dodge Lina's romantic overtures, especially when he falls for chorus girl Kathy Selden. With the advent of sound in motion pictures, it is decided to turn Don and Lina's new film into a "talkie" and a musical at that. The only problem is Lina's voice, which mere words cannot describe. Thus, Kathy is brought on to dub her speaking and singing voice in secret, and Don's on top of the world. But then Lina finds out...
