From the Editor's Desk
To fish, human; to love, divine
B.J. Davis

I've mentioned fishing in a past article or two, but a few things occurred to me this past weekend during some more fishing-related exploits.

Saturday, my sister and brother in-law were in town to pick up her over-priced wedding album and stay for dinner. Earlier that day when I came over to recruit my brother to help me move furniture, I noticed my dad throwing his cast net which meant he noticed a favorable and substantial school of mullet which in our family always equaled no longer worrying what was for dinner. Fish caught off our coastal waters always tastes better when it's caught and made at home.

The next day, my friends Kelly and Doug allowed me to be a third wheel on their excursion on his McKee Craft 23 Tournament Edition. Unfortunately, the Sheepshead were hitting, but I was not catching. Although, no matter how fruitless my landing attempts were, we, along with the other boaters of Ft. McRee, were able to enjoy the occasional Blue Angel, helicopter rescue training and some of the most crystal clear waters I've seen.

The thought that kept popping into my head on any of these occasions? "I live here."

Not that we have plenty of time not to worry about "H" season (H season can go to "H" if you ask me), but we can always enjoy what we have right now. Don't take our area for granted. Know your governmental officials aren't. In fact, the City of Gulf Breeze has already begun the repair of Shoreline South so more area boats can have the opportunity to launch from the park and experience the day I had this past weekend. Navarre has begun the renourishment process so that their beaches can once again look beautiful.

Next time "H" season looms, just look around. We do live in paradise.
