Morgan

Robert Joseph Morgan, Jr. was born on February 10, 1983 to Robert Joseph Morgan and Betty Jo Morgan in San Diego, California. He graduated from Gulf Breeze High School in 2000. He attended the University of West Florida, and in 2003, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Robert excelled in Basic Training and was immediately selected to serve with Force Recon, the Marines' elite special operations force. Robert served one tour in Iraq with the Recon Detachment of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit from March 2005 to October 2005. He was awarded the National Defense Ribbon, Sea Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his service

Robert loved cars (especially fast ones) and was an avid surfer. If he wasn't on duty you

could bet he'd be out on the beach with one of his many surfboards trying to catch the best wave. Robert's love for surfing and his excellence as a Recon Marine were both closely tied to his swimming ability. At age 11 Robert joined the swim team and for eight years he swam competitively under the coaching of Steve Panzram and James Barber. Later, Robert channeled the passion, dedication and intensity he had as an athlete and turned it toward coaching, as a swim coach for The Club in Gulf Breeze, Robert coached all levels of swimmers. Robert loved children and was gifted both at inspiring them to excel and making them laugh. Robert was a true leader, his ability to motivate people was unparalleled and he was greatly admired by all who knew him. Robert was known as one who selflessly sacrificed and never expected anything in return. His spirit, his laughter and his dancing will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Morgan. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Morgan of Gulf Breeze, Florida, his sister Susan (Daniel) Mangan of Fairfield, California, his sister Amanda Bruce of Gulf Breeze, Florida, niece, Caroline Mangan of Fairfield, California, his grandparents, Joe and Betty Zimmers of Pensacola, Florida and grandparents, Carlton and Eileen Morgan of Atlanta, Ga.
