South Santa Rosa Writers Group

The South Santa Rosa Writers group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Hall at 6:30 p.m. Writers bring selections of their work to read to the group for critiquing and assistance.

Two members of the group proudly presented their first p u b l i s h e d books at the g r o u p ' s recent meeting. Mark Miller's book, "Chasing Faith," tells the story of Cara, a good Catholic school girl, who begins to question her way of life when her mother dies from a drug overdose and she is forced to live with her estranged father. The story allows the reader to join this curious, intelligent, courageous teenager as she attempts to find a way to overcome obstacles, find her place in the world and find a way to believe in God.

Mark resides in Navarre but grew up in Rockville, Maryland. He earned a bachelors degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University. He has spent the last five years as a special education teacher for at-risk youths with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral problems. Mark's experience working in a mental health hospital for teenage girls gave him the unique opportunity to understand the trials and tribulations that many troubled teenage girls encounter. He has transformed these experiences into the fictional story of fifteen-year-old Cara. "Chasing Faith" may be reviewed and purchased at www.trentsprints.com.

Ginny Brown's book, "Making Memories," is the true story of a Santa Rosa County pioneer family as told to her by Jewell Wells Golden.

"I've done a lot, but it has ten me ninety-four years to do

it all," said Jewell. It was important to Jewell to record the story of her pioneering life so that her grandchildren and their children would know their heritage. This was a time before bridges and roads and follows the many changes brought about with passing years.

Ginny married the stepson of Ira D. Wells, one of Jewell Golden's brothers. She was captivated by this large family and wanted to know more about them. After researching the local libraries with the idea of writing about the family, she felt prepared to undertake this book. Ginny resides in Navarre and also has several stories and articles published in "The Heritage of Santa Rosa County II."
