Back (from left): Alex Mucci; Jesse Thill; Andrew Darden and Asa Mosley The GFWC Milton Woman's Club, Inc. will oversee the Little Red School House, a building set aside to stock donated items, which will be made available to Santa Rosa County teachers, beginning in September.
School supplies, decorating items and incentive gifts will be available to the teachers, who will be issued Little Red School House Bucks. The project is overseen by the Santa Rosa Educational Foundation (SREF) and will be maintained and kept open by the Woman's Club several days a week when it opens. The Little Red School House was established by former SREF Executive Director, Clairen Reese.
On July 27, six current and former Santa Rosa County school students assisted Paula Lou Mapoles, Woman's Club president and Cecile Stephens, 1st vice president, in moving all the donated items from one building to another. Several of the young men had worked the previous week removing doors from cabinets where small items will be put on display.
The young men include: Alex Mussi and Jesse Thill, both graduates of Milton High School, now in their second year at Pensacola Junior College; Andrew Darden and Josh Hartwig, also graduates of Milton High School, now in their second year of college at the University of West Florida. Asa Mosley is a senior at Milton High School and Philip Grafton is a seventh grade student at King Middle School.
After enjoying pizza and soft drinks, the young men went to work moving several hundred boxes and items donated by the WalMart in Gulf Breeze from one portable building to the another.
Businesses are encouraged to donate overstocked items and any other items they feel our county teachers can put to use in their classrooms and/or to encourage students.
Many of the faculty spend dollars of their own to make their rooms attractive and some have even furnished supplies to their students when they were needed. They need YOUR support. Won't you consider the Little Red School House the next time you need to dispose of new, unwanted inventory?
If you or someone you know would like to make a donation, please call the Santa Rosa Educational Foundation office at 850983-503 or Paula Lou Mapoles, board member of the SREF at 850-626-9567 to make arrangements for delivery or pickup.
