Suede coat was talk of the nurses
Bette Boyle I was going through my closets to see just what to take up to Interfaith Ministries, when I saw one overloaded belt rack, and a russet suede belt caught my eye. It belonged with a suede coat of the same color, and it brought back loads of memories.
My husband purchased that handsome coat as a gift for me after the birth of my third child, and brought it to the hospital for me to wear home. I don't know who was more excited, me or the nurses on that floor. Imagine a husband who would bring his wife something to wear that really was the perfect gift. And not only that, it was also a perfect fit.
While I ate my last lunch in the hospital some of the nurses from the other side of the hospital came by to see the coat they had heard so much about. The head nurse wheeled me down to my car and carefully deposited my new son into my waiting arms. Then she leaned in the car and whispered, "See you next year."
Actually, it was to be almost 2 years, so I guess I fooled her! I think I'll keep that belt.

How often have you heard the sound of Baptist Hospital's LifeFlight overhead and thought, "Someone's in trouble'?" But then we realize how fortunate this area is to have this service. We may not be the largest city in the world, but we still have first-class, bigcity medical facilities.
When LifeFlight first began operation in 1977, it was only the third hospital-based program in the country. This year it added another helicopter covering southern Alabama. Last year more than 1800 patients were transported.
So, when we hear that throbbing sound overhead, let's give a big "thank you."

In case you're interested, the National Sleep Foundation (yes, there is one) tells us that there are eight ways to better sleep. They include avoiding alcohol and smoking during the last two hours before bedtime (and of course, avoid them altogether if you can) and avoiding caffeinated beverages six hours before sleep. Exercise regularly in the late afternoon, but not too close to bedtime. Lose excess weight: overweight people are more prone to snoring and other nighttime breathing problems that interfere with sleep.
Try to get up about the same time every day, regardless of when you fall asleep well, that's enough for now, I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it.

If you are an older person who is a few pounds over your ideal weight, researchers have good news for you. They have found that older adults in general who are a little overweight do not have any increased risk of premature death. That is not to say that being very overweight is okay. Obesity at any age is a risk factor for premature death. (Source: Internal Medicine vol. 161)

Here are two takes on birthdays:
"We are always the same age inside." Gertrude Stein
"Birthdays are good for you. Studies show that people who have the most of them also live the longest." Anonymous
See you next week!
