Fraternal Order of United Commercial Travelers of America will be holding its 101st Georgia/Florida Grand Convention at the Bay Beach Inn starting for members Thursday, May 4. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. On Friday reports given by youth council, charities and trust fund as well as a caucus elections will be held. Representatives going to the National and Canada Supreme session in KY in July will also be discussed. A banquet is scheduled for 7 p.m. On Saturday, breakfast and final session wrap up with installation of new members will be held in the morning.

Pensacola Council #332 of UCT will be hosting convention in Gulf Breeze.

Gulf Isle Neighbors will be conducting their final meeting for the year at the Bay Beach Inn on Wednesday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. This event will begin with a social followed by a meeting to install the new officers for the coming fiscal year at 11:00 a.m., and lunch to be served at noon.

The group also will be presenting the Pace Center for Girls, Inc. with a check to aid in their programs. The Pace Center for Girls was founded in 1985 in Jacksonville and currently has 19 centers across Florida with attendance reaching over 5,000 girls. Pace Center in Escambia/Santa Rosa opened its doors in January 1994 and to date, has served over 500 girls in both counties.

The school has a success rate of 94% of students who have earned a high school diploma or GED, or were mainstreamed back to public schools or an appropriate educational setting or have become employed. Their mission is provide girls and young women with an opportunity for a better future through eduction, counseling, training and advocacy.

The Santa Rosa Quilt Guild will meet on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4901 Gulf Breeze Parkway. Pat Baker, former owner of the The Quilt Corner, will present a program on Quilt Embellishment. Everyone interested in quilting is invited to attend, regardless of their level of expertise. It's Fun. Woodlawn Beach Middle School will be having the next School Advisory Council meeting on May 11 at 7 a.m., in the Administrative Conference Room.

Same Time, Same Place

The South Santa Rosa Writers meet each second and fourth Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 7810 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, west of Highway 87 adjacent to the Lewis Funeral Home.

Bring your poetry, novel, memoirs, history or whatever you are working on, read and the group will critique it. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. It's free, enjoyable and a learning experience.
